Ocean Beach
Where to stay
Kimpton EPIC Hotel is in the centre of the city’s financial district and looks over the picturesque Miami River. We paid around £300 a night, although this was during peak time. This is a pet friendly hotel with a rooftop pool, spa facilities, gym classes and a 12000-square foot spa. Plus, it’s only a 15 minute drive from here in downtown Miami to South Beach. If you’re an avid sun worshiper, I’d recommend staying at South Beach itself or Mid Beach (Miami Beach) so you can really soak in the rays with minimal effort. Having said that, it is super easy to travel around Miami with everything so well connected via public transport.
Collins Avenue is the main street to walk down in South Beach and where a lot of the fancy hotels are located. We first stayed at Oceanside Hotel + Suite on Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, and this was not one of the fancy hotels and we would not stay again.
The hotel is rated a 3.6* at £87 a night, so if you’re prepared to lower your standards to save a bit of money, the location is good being right by the beach.
However, we came during Spring Break and apparently some hotels take advantage of their tourists and neglect to clean their rooms. We asked for our room to be cleaned over 8 times over our five night stay and we only had our room cleaned once! That being said, the Tavern which is the restaurant linked to the hotel was pretty good.

WHAT TO DO
Nikki Beach: The first ever Nikki Beach, this is perfect place to go during the day. Nikki Beach boasts chic décor surrounded by white day beds and sand. It’s worth noting that there’s no pool but hey, you’re on the beach! Take a dip in the sea.

Try getting a lunch reservation as there is a $34 3 course menu. If you just want to visit the mansion you can look outside for free but you’ll have to pay, eat at the restaurant or be a hotel guest to get a look inside. A room is around £770 a night…
Cafes
(10) Dior cafe: Dior has a pop up café on the roof of its store in the Miami Design District. At $14 for a small latte with the Dior logo on, ensure you’ve packed your wallet! Make sure to go and put your name on the waitlist, as they mentioned there could be up to a 1-2 hour wait and once you receive a text they’ll give your spot away after 5 minutes (we got a text 4 minutes after putting our name down and went back late but they put us just back on the list and got seated 10 minutes later).
(11) Panther Coffee: Voted Miami’s best coffee shop
Drinks
(1) Four Seasons Hotel: On Brickell Avenue, a beautiful oceanfront destination for drinks.
(2) Soho Beach House: Members only club but a member can take up to three guests. Cecconis classic Italian restaurant is situated on the ground floor courtyard and is a perfect tasty spot for dinner.
(3) Moxies: Located in downtown Miami, great vibe for drinks before a night out.
CLUBS
(1) Le Rouge: We went to a ticketed event here. An important note to take is that guys can’t wear shorts (if you do they’ll turn you away or ask you to pay for an expensive bottle).
(2) Sexy Fish: London’s Sexy Fish has opened up in Miami. Here you can enjoy delicious dining followed by clubbing and entertainment, open until the early hours. You may need to get a promoter to get access into here.

WHAT IT WAS LIKE
Transport- Miami is well connected and getting ubers here is a breeze. Coming at one of the busiest times of the year didn’t prove too difficult when travelling around. Parking we heard can be quite difficult and expensive so Ubers provided the best solution.
Eating out in Miami was more expensive than I remember from visiting 5-10 years ago, however prices are usually raised around the busiest periods of the year- notably Spring Break. The bars, beach clubs and club I visited I’d highly recommend and I would definitely come back to visit Miami again. The locals are very friendly.
Any Advice
Tipping- Usually around 15-20% this can sometimes be added to your bill but it is best to check as you are expected to pay this.
Resort fees – This can be added when you check in to a hotel and covers amenities such as beach towels. So be careful to check before if this will be added on arrival.
Safety- Like any place in USA just be careful when you are out for instance clubbing in South Beach as the pickpockets are notoriously skilled.
