Short break to BANGALORE
During my time in India I worked in Bangalore for a short stretch of time. I thought I’d list a couple things I did here- hope it is useful!
I chose to stay on MG Road as I had heard so much about it. My friends had mentioned how the Taj is one of the nicest hotels to stay at in India. So I booked in at the Taj. It’s one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. The suite was a decent size and had really lovely interior. Sort of Blair Gossip Girl Upper East Side aesthetic. It’s the first hotel I have been to with different options for types of dressing gowns! The rooms also had smart TV set up with netflix and the hotel had a night club on the ground floor. I think when I stayed they had works at the main restaurant- so wasn’t particularly impressed by breakfast but room service was incredible. Butler service type style.
Again the hotel was INSANE. The hotel car picked me up at the airport with water/ fruit in a cooler. I planned to leave quite early for my flight when travelling back from Bangalore. As I knew Bangalore traffic could be horrendous, having experienced it travelling to work that week. My driver told me I’d be getting there super early and offered to drive me to some tourist spots. He took me all over and even offered to take photos of me and would wait by the car as he took me to markets and shops.
I wasn’t in Bangalore for long but I did manage to go to a couple food places and visit some areas.
- Ice- This was the nightclub in the Taj MG Road, this was pretty decent, there seemed to be quite a few westerners here and western music playing, not sure if it was just the night but it closed pretty early so we had to look where we could go nearby
- The Club 10- This was down the road from the Taj MG Road hotel, so we went when Ice closed. It was a big club, they played only Indian music so I wasn’t too aware of the songs- there did happen to be quite a lot of locals enjoying the music though
- Cubbon Park- A nice park to visit in the centre
- ISKCON temple- I didn’t manage to go in here but my driver took me to see the temple
- 1 MG Road Mall- Huge shopping centre- I was desperate to visit H&M and it’s literally just across the road from the Taj hotel
- Vidhan Sauda- Is a landmark in Banglore and was incredibly busy when I visited with mainly local visitors. It’s huge at 60 acres and supposed to be one of the most famous landmarks in Bangalore. You can enter but will need to do a guided tour.
The bars we went to I found quite quiet and the club in the Taj closed early. So we walked down the road to the nearby club open. The music wasn’t really my vibe but it was still fun to go for a bit! I think it is more a spot for locals then tourists.
The traffic I found quite impossible in Bangalore but in comparison to Chennai as a city, it’s definitely more modern and there is a lot more to do as a tourist.
Something I found odd is that the top clubs are all in the well known hotel chains such as the Marriott or Taj.
Staying in some 5* hotels in India, one thing I’ve noticed is the customer service is insane, more over the top than anywhere else I’ve experienced.
Any advice
If you are just coming to travel, stay around MG Road as it is quite central but if you are coming for work, check how far away it is as even a drive that should take you 20 mins can take you well over an hour in peak traffic.
