A trip to the Amalfi coast- Capri
A guide to a few nights stay in Capri. If you want more information on where to stay, what it was like, the instagrammable spots and advice on a trip to the Amalfi coast Capri scroll down!
Where to stay
We stayed a Hotel Weber Ambassador at £136 a night with breakfast included. This is located on the Marina Piccola beach. The location is beautiful and the hotel offers a frequent free shuttle service into the centre which came in very useful! It has a huge pool and jacuzzi but this is slightly outdated. There was a massive selection at breakfast- I’d recommend sitting inside instead of outside. It may be tempting to chase that incredible view, but it’s better to take it in from indoors unless you fancy sharing the experience with the obscene amount of wasps that’ll be circling your plates at breakfast!
What to do
(1) Shopping at Piazza Umberto I- With all the designer shops you could possibly think of, stop off in the square for a lavish shopping trip. Bear in mind that it can get really busy in this small centre.
(2) Dior pop up store and bar- Located at il riccio restaurant & beach club. This is a beautiful Dior inspired bar and offers an immersive retail experience with products on display throughout the beach club. The drinks area has a fun feel, with a DJ and views overlooking the sea. The bar is quite pricey but definitely worth a visit.
(3) Hire a boat- We actually hired a boat from Sorrento which took us into Capri. One of the spots it stopped at for lunch was Marina Piccola beach so we left the tour here and checked in at the hotel. The tour drops you off near the Blue grotto (you can pay extra to go in) and at a location with the faraglioni in the background. Amazing for photo opportunities!
(4) Chair lift Monte Solaro- Get a chairlift to the highest point in Capri (at 12 euros for a return ticket). You can see all of the island from here, and as far as the Bay of Naples and the Amalfi Coast on a clear day.
Restaurants
(1) Ristorante paolino capri- For dinner try this lemon-inspired restaurant! We tried the lemon pasta and fries and it was delicious!
(2) Da Luigi ai Faraglioni- On the water’s edge, dine looking out onto the Faraglioni. Despite the numerous seafood dishes, the fried zucchini blossoms is a fan favourite.
(3) Villa Verde- Only a few meters away from the ‘piazzetta’ dine in the terrace area. All food is fresh and ‘from their garden’
What it was like
Capri screams of wealth, having a Monaco type feel. The centre had many people dressed to impress clasping shopping bags from the likes of Louis Vuitton or Gucci. You can see why this is still a hot spot for the rich and famous with every aspect of our trip here feeling lavish. With that this was the most expensive place we visited on our trip around Italy. I would definitely come again, for a chilled luxury type holiday.
Any advice
Car: I’d recommend hiring a car or looking into using the taxi service here. Our hotel offered a complimentary service to drop you off at AntiCapri and we heard you could easily get around via buses. However, it ended up being a bit of hassle having to change buses, with buses being at 2 euros each way. I think one day we ended up journeying on 5-6 buses. Taxi service costs around 25 euros so this would have been a lot less stressful and only slightly more in cost.
