A trip to Positano amalfi coast Italy - Top things to do and 7 best places to eat and drink
A guide to a few nights stay in Positano. If you want more information on where to stay and A trip to Positano amalfi coast Italy – Top things to do and 7 best places to eat and drink read below.
Where to stay
There are a variety of hotels in positano Italy. Book in advance as it is a small town the hotels and villas can get booked up. Hotel Bougainville is located a 9 minute walk from the ferry drop-off point in Amalfi Coast Postiano. We picked the hotel as it was one of the cheapest 4* left in the centre of the village at £174 a night (which was more than we paid in Capri and Sorrento). We were forewarned that because Positano is arguably the best city along the Amalfi coast, it would come at a price.
The hotel was quaint. It didn’t have a pool, but few that we looked at did. The hotel was decent, a continental breakfast was included in the price, and the staff were incredibly helpful. Despite being up a few hills, some of the best spots in the village were located just above us, so it actually ended up being a great location. This is arguable one of the best hotels in Positano Italy based on price and location.
What to do
Whilst you are Positano Amalfi Coast Italy – here are some of the top things to do and 7 best places to eat and drink from visiting the beach clubs and indulging in their delicious food at their incredible restaurants and bars.
Beach clubs
Arienzo beach club: We debated going to another beach club on the Positano coast just across from Music on the rocks. Hiring a sun lounger costs around 100 euros. Arienzo Beach club offered a deal for 65 euros- an appetiser, lunch, water, glass of wine and sun lounger and this also included a boat transfer to and from the beach. While there is part of the Positano beach you can sit for free, I’d still recommend a trip here to this Positano Beach Club. Given it has beautiful views of Positano, lovely food.
7 Best Restaurant in Positano - places to eat and drink
Drinks
Franco’s Bar: This restaurant and bar in Positano has some of the best view of the beach, To secure a table with a view, try and get here early- around 4:45 for the bar opening at 5:30. It also seems to be a popular spot for evening spots so worth getting here early to secure a table!
Ristorante Bruno: We wandered up towards Franco’s bar for a drink but it only opens at 5:30pm. Just a minute or two further up the hill you’ll come across this restaurant which has cocktails for 10 euros. We stopped here and had some limoncello spritz while looking out at the views of Positano— bliss! Arguably one of the best cheaper restaurants in Positano to stop off thanks to the incredible views. But also an amazing place to stop for a drink.
Lunch
Le Treville: Visit Villa Treville Positano for lunch at their restaurant ‘Post Maestro.’ I’d recommend booking this restaurant even though it’s not in as high demand as some of the other food spots — you can never be too careful. There are plenty of tables set up outside at Villa Treville Positano, and sofas set up to allow you to soak in the views of Positano. Call the hotel if you are staying central, as they can offer a complimentary boat pick up service right by where you get the ferry, for both Villa Treville Positano hotel guests and guests of the restaurant.
San Pietro di Positano: Noted as one of the best restaurants in Positano because of the incredible food. Another place with an amazing view, however on a slightly different side of Positano to Franco’s Bar.
Dinner
Le Sirenuse Hotel: Le Sirenuse Positano is known as one of the best hotel’s and restaurants in Positano. After having drinks at Franco’s, many head on to this hotel for dinner as it is a short walk nearby. Food here is relatively expensive at 25 euros for a pasta dish. To stay here on the other hand is incredibly expensive.
Ristorant L’Ancore: This restaurant is just across from Le Sirenuse hotel, and is less expensive. Not as renowned as Le Sirenuse but this Positano restaurant has delicious food at a cheaper price point with the same views as Le Sirenuse.
Ohima restaurant: This was the best restaurant we visited in Positano in my opinion. It’s located just down the hill from Le Sireunuse Hotel and Franco’s Bar. Hidden in the centre with views of Positano, but not quite 360 views. This was potentially the reason for cheaper price tag than a lot of the other restaurants we tried. We ordered wine and mains and the restaurant came with a range of local breads, a starter and desserts all for free! FYI they have steak with truffle here— my favourite!
Night life
Music on the rocks: This is Positano’s only night club on the island — literally built inside of rocks! Unfortunately, the club wasn’t open when we went as covid regulations meant no clubs in Italy were open. The bar at the top, however, was open and busy. The owner apparently had Denzel Washington as best man at his wedding, so there have been some very famous people in this establishment! I’d definitely add this Night club in Amalfi Coast Positano to your list of things to do.

Pool
Villa Fiorentino Positano: This hotel in Positano has stunning instagrammable views from the pool. You’ll need to stay at the hotel or book a spa appointment to get be able to get a picture at this iconic private glass jacuzzi.
What it was like
Like for many, Positano was my favourite city along the Amalfi coast. It has such a small town , beach feel and it’s hard to stop anywhere without being surrounded by amazing views. Walking up hills is the only problem! Everything though is in walking distance and if not, for instance the beach club or some hotels often offer complimentary boats.
We stayed here for two days and while there were a couple other restaurants we wanted to visit, I’d say 3-4 days would be enough to visit.
Any advice
Food: Be sure to try some spots like the waffle and frozen yoghurt store just off from the square. If lunches/dinners are becoming too expensive- we managed to stop here a couple times, for crepes and also ice creams.
