The Ultimate Amsterdam Bucket List: A Guide to Dining and Nightlife

October 11, 2024

Your Ultimate Weekend in Amsterdam: A Two-Day Itinerary with Dining and Nightlife

Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities, making it, in my view, one of the most beautiful places to visit in Europe. With a flight from London taking as little as an hour, it’s perfect for a short break or weekend getaway. I’ll cover some fun places for dining before heading out too. Whether you’re exploring its picturesque canals or indulging in local cuisine. Here’s your ultimate Amsterdam bucket list: a guide to dining and nightlife in Amsterdam, along with exciting good things to do in Amsterdam over a weekend.

Best Times to Visit Amsterdam

The best times to visit Amsterdam are in the spring (April to June) and fall (September to October). During these months, the weather is mild, and the city is less crowded than in the peak summer season. Expect temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F), making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

Where to Stay: L’Art Otel

We stayed at L’Art Otel. You should pick somewhere central as it can be pretty complex and time-consuming on a short break organizing transport; I’d made this mistake staying outside of Amsterdam before. This hotel offers a unique option where you can exchange a room cleaning for a bottle of wine or prosecco. Plus, you’ll be greeted with a complimentary glass of prosecco upon arrival, setting the perfect tone for your stay. It’s also a short walk from the station, so whether you fly in or get the Eurostar, you’ll most probably enter Amsterdam from this train station.

Weekend Itinerary Summary

Day 1: Arrival and Exploration

Morning

  • 9:00 AM: Breakfast at The Breakfast Club (10-minute walk)
Kickstart your Amsterdam adventure at The Breakfast Club. Try their signature pancakes; this is known as a popular spot if you don’t fancy breakfast at your hotel.

Midday

  • 12:30 PM: Lunch at Soho House (15-minute walk)
For lunch, Soho House is a top choice if you have a membership. The club has a rooftop pool with stunning views of the city. Great to have a little nap like we did after the long flight.
  • 2:00 PM: Visit the Upside Down Museum (10-minute walk)
I’d then suggest heading to a tourist spot or exploring the canals on a bike. The Upside Down Museum is where you can take unique photos and enjoy interactive exhibits that will leave you feeling like you’re walking on the ceiling.
