Woop welcome to Ubud, Bali – a serene destination known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and spiritual vibe. Whether you’re looking to explore hidden gems, capture the aesthetic beauty of Ubud for your Instagram, or immerse yourself in Balinese culture, this guide will help you plan the perfect Ubud itinerary. From stunning waterfalls to lush rice terraces, Ubud has it all.
I did enjoy Ubud, but would prefer to visit for a few nights and live in Canggu area. There are many companies that do tours, you can even speak to local hosts at your accommodation who can help you find a driver to take you to Ubud, if you are staying for example in Seminyak and Canggu and will assist in helping you plan your day and can provide entry into some spots.

Day 1: Explore Ubud’s Culture and Nature
1. Ubud Palace (Puri Saren Agung)
Start your journey at the heart of Ubud – the Ubud Palace. This historic landmark is home to the royal family and showcases classical Balinese architecture. With its intricate carvings and beautiful gardens, it’s the perfect spot to capture some amazing photos for your “Ubud Bali photography” collection. The palace is located right in the center of Ubud, making it a convenient stop to explore the surrounding area.
2. Ubud Art Market
Just across the street from Ubud Palace is the Ubud Art Market. This bustling market offers an array of handmade crafts, from silk scarves to woven bags and wooden statues. There are also many other art houses where you can see local art, this won’t be cheap but we visited and there are some stunning handmade pieces. Whether you’re looking for the perfect “Ubud outfit” or some unique souvenirs, this is the place to shop. It’s a vibrant spot to soak in the local culture and perhaps bargain for some lovely keepsakes. I would say however while some of these outfits can be cheap, quality wise I have found they reflect the price.
3. Pura Taman Saraswati Temple
Located just a short walk from the palace is the Pura Taman Saraswati Temple. Known for its stunning lotus pond, this temple is a peaceful spot to enjoy the beautiful Balinese architecture. Entrance costs around 80k IDR ($6), and sarongs are provided for visitors. Capture the temple’s beauty for your “Ubud Bali aesthetic” Instagram posts.
Day 2: Embrace Nature and Adventure
4. Tegenungan Waterfall
A trip to Ubud isn’t complete without visiting Tegenungan Waterfall. Nestled in the jungle, this waterfall is a great spot to cool off after descending the steep hill to reach it. It’s an Instagrammable spot with clear waters and lush greenery. There are also market stalls nearby where you can grab some food (about 30k IDR for a burger and fries). Don’t forget to capture the beauty for your “Instagrammable holiday Ubud” posts.
5. Tegallalang Rice Terrace
One of the most iconic sights in Ubud is the Tegallalang Rice Terrace. The vast terraces offer stunning views, and you can walk through them to fully experience their beauty. Just be aware that some locals may charge a small fee for access to certain areas, but it’s worth it to see these lush, green fields up close. The rice terraces are perfect for “Ubud Bali photography” and offer a tranquil escape into nature.
6. Bali Swing
Looking for a thrill? Head over to the famous Bali Swing. With packages starting at $10, you can swing over the jungle and rice terraces while capturing some seriously impressive photos. It’s one of the top things to do in Ubud for those looking for adventure and aesthetic shots. There are different packages available, some of which include lunch, so it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon.
Day 3: Unique Experiences and Hidden Gems
7. Satria Coffee Plantation
Take a break from sightseeing and visit the Satria Coffee Plantation, where you can sample 16 different coffees and teas for free! For a small fee, you can also try the famous Luwak coffee. The plantation offers breathtaking views and a relaxing atmosphere. It’s a must-visit for coffee lovers and a great place to learn about the process of making coffee while enjoying the stunning landscape.
8. Ubud Monkey Forest
A visit to the Ubud Monkey Forest is both thrilling and amusing. For a $6 entry fee, you’ll be greeted by playful monkeys roaming freely. Be cautious with your belongings, as the monkeys are known to grab items like water bottles or snacks. If you’re feeling brave, you can feed them bananas. While not everyone enjoys interacting with the monkeys, it’s a popular attraction and offers a unique experience. I personally hated this experience, especially given people warn you to have a rabies shot before coming in case one of the monkey’s bite you.
9. Hidden Gems: Campuhan Ridge Walk
End your Ubud journey with a peaceful walk along the Campuhan Ridge Walk, a beautiful trail offering panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. It’s perfect for a morning or late afternoon walk, and the soft lighting makes it an ideal spot for photography. The walk is free and gives you a chance to unwind and reflect on your Ubud adventure.
Where to Stay: Ubud Villas
For the full Ubud experience, consider staying in one of the many Ubud villas. These private accommodations often come with a pool and garden, providing a luxurious and tranquil retreat after a day of exploring. Many villas in Ubud are set amidst rice paddies or jungle landscapes, making them perfect for a relaxing and immersive stay and can include treatments/massages during your stay.
Final Tips for Your Ubud Adventure:
- What to Wear: Ubud’s tropical climate means lightweight, breathable clothing is a must. Pack flowy dresses, light shirts, and comfortable shoes. When visiting temples, remember that sarongs are required.
- Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit Ubud is during the dry season (April to October) when the weather is ideal for exploring the outdoors.
- How to Get Around: Renting a scooter is the most convenient way to get around Ubud, but taxis and private drivers are also readily available. It’ll just take longer in a car. Usually people hire a car for the day from other areas to visit and explore this area.
This ultimate Ubud travel guide will help you experience the very best the region has to offer, from its stunning waterfalls and rice terraces to its rich cultural landmarks and hidden gems. Happy travels!
Any advice
Advice for above activities: Carry with you small cash for the Tegallalung Rice Terrace and a sarong with you for the temple. Also you should hold onto your cameras tightly at the Monkey Forest, the monkeys enjoy grabbing stuff off you and can be quite vicious.
Tours: If you are staying at home-stays I recommend asking if they can offer any services like this.

Wow you packed so much in to 1 day! The type of thing I’d do admittedly but you must have been exhausted. It looks beautiful though.

I actually honeymooned in Ubud! And would you believe that in the whole week we were there, we did not know about the existence of the swing? I could cry thinking about it, haha. I am so going back just to do that!
