Where I Stayed
I stayed at my sister’s house in Costa Teguise when I was here. Costa Teguise is only 10-15 minutes from the airport and is a hotspot for families alongside Playa Blanca. If you’re here for the nightlife scene, Puerto del Carmen is for you.

Where to Stay
Costa Teguise: Barcelo Teguise Beach– This 4* hotel has an outdoor pool, a bar, restaurant, and a fitness centre/gym. It’s close to the Lagomar Museum and the Jardin de Cactus Garden.
Beaches wise, Las Cucharas, Playa del Jablillo, and Playa Bastian are only a few hundred yards away. An important thing to note is that this hotel is adults only.

Playa Blanca: Iberostar Selection Lanzarote Park– This is a 5* beachfront hotel. With four outdoor pools for adults and three for children.
A free gym and spa are available at an extra cost with saunas and hot tubs! The hotel is only a short walk from Playa Flamingo, the other nearest locations are Parque del Mediterraneo and Kikoland.
It’s worth noting that the top attractions are several miles away (Lagomar museum, 22 miles away), so if you’re here to visit attractions, this might not be for you.

In Puerto del Carmen, Hyde Park Lane is known to be one of the best hotels to stay at in Lanzarote, with four outdoor pools.
There is a tennis court that you can use at an additional charge. This hotel is not as close as Costa Teguise, but the Lagomar museum and the Jardin de Cactus Garden are 6-10 miles away, and the Campesino Monument is only 6 miles away.
The closest beach is the Playa de los Pocillos and Puerto del Carmen Beach.

What to Do
In this section, we go through the 12 Best Things to do in Lanzarote, Canary Islands.
- Los Volcanes National Park – Spend a morning or afternoon hiking for 2-3 hours just outside of Manca Blanca village.

2. Jameos del Agua caves– A volcanic tunnel with an underground concert hall, restaurant, cave, and pool by the artist Cesar Manrique, based in Haría. Studying the water in the cave, you’ll notice thousands of little white albino crabs creating the illusion of glistening water.
The pool is only for decoration, however when I was there, someone actually dive bombed into the pool. I’d suggest eating here, as you can dine in this cave, which is quite an experience. Only 2 euros for residence and 10 euros for tourists.

3. LagOmar Museum– This £4.5 million mansion is said to have been bought by Omar Sharif, the Lawrence of Arabia actor (a known gambler), only to lose it a few days later in a card game.
This private property was inspired by nature, courtyards, and a private pool which you’re not allowed to use. To visit, it’s only 2 euros for residents and 6 euros for tourists. This is based in North of Lanzarote near Nazaret.

4. Mirador del Río – Located in Haría, again, one of César Manrique’s creations. This is an artist-designed clifftop structure from 1974, with a cafe with viewing points and incredible panoramic views of the Island of La Graciosa, only 2 kilometres from Lanzarote.
This is arguably one of the most unique architectural creations by César. There are also many other incredible cliff-top viewpoints and cafes with panoramic views on the drive.
It is just over 3 euros for residents and under 5 euros for tourists.

5. César Manrique Foundation. 5th on the list of 12 Best Things to do in Lanzarote, Canary Islands. Here you can view Paintings by Spanish artists in Manrique’s studio-home & garden built into an old lava flow.

6. Teguise Sunday Market– The busiest market in Lanzarote is the Sunday market. Stop off and grab a pastry while you look around.
Here you can see the unusual white buildings, clothes and craft shops, restaurants, streets, and the square.

7. Jardin de Cactus– Another of César Manrique’s creations with many different species, here you can see cacti in all shapes.
You’ll have to pay to climb up the stairs to see the windmill to get that insta spot, this costs 6.50 euros.

8. Vineyards of La Geria – Take a guided tour, with wine tasting. Remarkably, this is a volcanic vineyard. This place uses the volcanic ash to harvest grapes!

9. Papagayo beach– I initially took this to be a must-visit place on the Lanzarote ‘to do’ list because of the deep blue hue of the sea.
However, I’d advise against it and recommend visiting some other beaches like Famara.
A long stretch of sand on Famara is pleasant to walk along. Additionally, there are limited places to change apart from one cave.

10. Museo Atlántico– If you can dive, visit the underwater museum.
11. Visit the town of Playa Quemada, where people weren’t permitted to build, yet they still did!
12. Open Air Cinema– Located in the Biosfera Plaza Shopping Centre on the top floor is the Rooftop – STARLIGHT Open Air Cinema. Perfect for a warm summer’s evening— you can order food to the area as well!

What it was like
It’s a volcanic island, so the landscape wasn’t what I anticipated! Nevertheless, the ports were beautiful, and in general, the open landscape and weather were pretty dreamy.
The only thing that is important to mention is how windy it can get, so despite being 20 odd degrees, you can get quite cold without a jacket.
At night, temperatures can drop too, so pack more than your typical summer wardrobe- bring some autumn staples!
It is also important to note that Lanzarote is big on people who love active holidays. So if this is something you are into, rent a bike or consider joining some activities/programs at Club La Santa. This is the number one sports and active holiday resort in the world.

Any Advice
Tickets: You can buy a combination pass if you want to visit a number of tourist spots. For example, you can opt to visit 3 tourist centres for 21 euros which includes two from Jameos Del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes and fire mountain, and one entry to Mirafor del Rio or the Cactus Garden.
Main resort centres are Puerto del Carmen, Arrecife, Costa Teguise, and Playa del Carmen. For a quieter holiday, head to Playa Blanca. If you want to enjoy the nightlife, Puerto del Carmen is the place to go.
